Back in the early 2000's, a young girl named Tara asked me to be her Fairy Godmother. That's when I began mentoring grade school students to help them achieve their educational goals.
This lead to mentoring single parents wanting to go to college to create a better future for their families. It wasn't until I began woking at UCLA Hospital when I was introduced to a whole new demographic of children who also needed mentoring - children fighting for their lives and living in the hospital were falling through the cracks too.
I was so engrossed in helping others that I nearly went bankrupt. That's when a colleague introduced me to Public Council where I received free legal help to create a non-profit organization
We take pride in creating an individualized supports for each mentee. This can range from coordinating with health team members, families, community partnerships, as well as collaborating with teachers and college/university support programs.
We also work with parents and guardians to add experiences that will help mentees learn more about the world and gain life skills. This includes paying for extra curricular activities, traveling to explore other cultures, applying for internships to gain vocational skills, and going to see fun events like musicals, concerts, and visiting museums.
And at the end of it all, we teach our mentees to pay it forward and become strong community members who to continue help make the world a better place with one good deed at a time.
For over a decade now, we have helped countless individuals achieve their academic goals. This process not only includes financial and academic support, but it also includes helping each mentee find their empowerment and confidence as a unique individual.
Our team believes that when we invest in human beings, our community becomes stronger and resilient. I believe in this so much that I became a mentor for the Los Angeles Unified School District to mentor new teachers back in 2015 too.
We are proud that many of our mentees who have decided to pursue post secondary education have graduated from Cal State Schools, UC Schools, and even some prestigious private universities/colleges like Harvard and Duke.
